Theses and study reports

The documentation of works makes part of the documentation available in digital format.

Diploma theses from 1982 to the present day

Master's theses for heritage conservators focus on objects or works of art in public collections. Students demonstrate their ability to carry out an exemplary intervention, taking into account the historical, iconographic and museographic context of the object, its heritage value and its state of deterioration. On the basis of these data, they propose a conservation-restoration approach supported by a technical-scientific study.

The paper version of the dissertations can also be consulted in the library, by appointment.

Conservation-restoration reports

Whether in the form of a report or a file, a conservation-restoration report includes a condition report, a diagnosis, a treatment proposal and the treatment carried out and, if necessary, a study and analysis report. The latter can be in a variety of formats and forms, ranging from scientific imaging (image techniques using different types of radiation and at different scales) to micro-sample analysis for quantitative chemical characterisation, which makes it difficult to format reports in the same way.

The processing stage allows us to gain a detailed understanding of the material and to summarise all the information acquired through bibliographical research, observation and analysis of the methods of manufacture (tool marks, appearance of the coating, methods of attachment, assembly, description of the materials), the material history of the object, in particular its past restorations (materials and techniques) and its alterations.

Only some of the conservation-restoration reports can be consulted in the Digital Media Library.
Restoration reports in paper format can be consulted at the library, which is open by appointment.
